IIHHT Level 3 Diploma in Stone Therapy

Introduction
Stone therapy is a technique for using specific types of stone at different temperatures in contact with the skin in order to increase the effects of massage treatment for face and body.

 The purpose of treatment is to improve relaxation and the client’s sense of well being. This course is an excellent therapy to add to your existing skills often used in conjunction with facial or body massage.

On successful completion of the course you will be awarded with a qualification that is recognised in industry and will enable you to gain insurance.

Entrance Requirements

A body massage qualification with a minimum of six months experience
Level 3 Diploma in Health, Safety, Security and Employment Standards

Course Content
• History of the treatment
• Benefits and effects of warm and cold stones
• Spiritual effects and chakras
• Related anatomy & physiology
• Contra-indications & contra-actions to treatment
• Client consultation and treatment planning
• Aftercare advice and home care advice
• Health, safety & hygiene
• Provide holistic facial massage-includes application of pre blended aromatherapy oils
• Practical demonstration

Duration
Two days - Day 1 and day 2 10.00am - 4.00pm
Plus assessment day - 10.00am - 4.00pm

Kit –  a stone heater will need to be purchased for case study and home practice approx £235-£295 plus VAT(Academy can advise).

VTCT Lifetime registration fee (if required) - £13 (£14 from August 2007)

Scheme of Work
Day 1
• Input on related theory
• Advise on completion of VR02/VR74 units if required and A.P.L for body massage
• Outline case study criteria
• Demonstration of holistic face and scalp massage treatment to include use of hot/cold stones
• Student practical performance on each other

Day 2
• Demonstration of back of body, warm stone treatment
• Student practical performance on each other
• Demonstration of front of body, warm stone treatment
• Student practical performance on each other

A four week gap between day one and day three will be given to allow for completion of case studies (2 clients 4 treatments), revision and completion of VR02/VR74 task book.

Day 3 - Assessment
• Completion of a written test on the theory delivered
• Exam paper for VR02/VR74 if required
• Submission of VR02/VR74 task book if required
• Submission of case studies
• Performance of 1 practical assessment, 1 full body massage to include face and scalp.  You will need to provide  a client
